 " CAS INTERCARE "

Clinical responsibility in geriatrics

 University of Basel, Institute of Nursing Science (INS)

 Residents in long-term care facilities today are at an advanced age with complex care needs. In order to ensure the quality of care in the long term, new care models and specifically qualified nursing staff are needed.

The Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) INTERCARE trains nurses to take on a clinical leadership role in long-term inpatient care. INTERCARE nurses recognize the specific health needs of older people, improve coordination at interfaces, strengthen the clinical expertise of staff and support the development of nursing care.

Course structure:
The 1.5-year, part-time course comprises five modules:

  • Leadership and communication
  • Comprehensive assessment of the elderly person
  • Geriatric syndromes
  • Clinical focus
  • Quality development and coaching

The lessons are supplemented by 9 individual and 6 group coaching sessions, practical case studies and a final project.

Target group: 
Nurses with a tertiary degree and at least three years of professional experience in long-term care who wish to take on or deepen their clinical leadership role.

Start and duration:
Start: February 2026 | Duration: 3 semesters (15 ECTS, approx. 450 h workload)
Parallel employment of up to 80% is possible.

 Master of Science in Nursing (MScN) at the University of Basel

University of Basel – Institute of Nursing Science (INS), Faculty of Medicine, Department of Public Health

Starting in the fall semester of 2026, the INS will offer a new specialization in Nurse Practitioner (NP).

This complements the existing specializations in Research (name unchanged) and Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS – formerly ANP).

Starting in the fall semester of 2026, there will no longer be a numerus clausus for nursing science studies at the University of Basel.

Registration for the fall semester is possible from February 1. This means that the registration period corresponds to the usual window for degree programs, and early registration by mid-February is no longer necessary.

The online registration form must be submitted to the study administration office together with the required documents. The registration deadline is April 30.

Interprofessional training for beginners

  OST - University of Applied Sciences of Eastern Switzerland, Department of Health, IGW Institute of Health Sciences

Acting effectively in the healthcare sector means transferring scientific findings into practice in a targeted manner. The course provides beginners with the tools for evidence-based action: from formulating practice-relevant questions to researching specialist databases and critically evaluating studies. The aim is to optimize the quality of care in the long term. 

Learning objectives: 

After the course, participants will be able to assess the relevance of evidence-based action, answer questions from practice based on facts and use tools to implement new findings in practice;

Target audience: 
Nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists and other healthcare professionals 

Participation fee: 
CHF 450.- incl. lunch

 « EANS Summer Conference 2026»

Nursing Science Shaping Policy and Practice for Healthcare Systems in Challenging Times 

  OST - University of Applied Sciences of Eastern Switzerland, Department of Health, IGW Institute of Health Sciences

The EANS Summer Conference is organized by the European Academy of Nursing Science (EANS). Each year, a European academic institution takes on the role of host and assumes scientific and thematic leadership of the conference.


The EANS Summer Conference 2026 cordially invites researchers, doctoral students, clinicians, policymakers, stakeholders, and academics from across Europe to participate in two days of exchange, learning, and networking at the OST in St. Gallen.


The conference is organized by the Institute of Health Sciences at OST – University of Applied Sciences Eastern Switzerland, St. Gallen, the Institute of Nursing Science at the University of Basel, the Institute for Implementation Science in Nursing at the University of Zurich, and the Center for Clinical Nursing Science at the University Hospital Zurich.

Under the theme "Nursing science shapes policy and practice for health systems in challenging times," the conference will address how nursing science contributes to resilient, adaptable, and sustainable health systems in the face of climate change, conflict, pandemics, staff shortages, and growing political and financial pressure.


Participants benefit from:

  • International keynote speeches by leading European experts and representatives of the WHO
  • Interactive workshops on current and new developments in nursing science, policy, and practice
  • High-quality lectures and poster presentations on the conference topic
  • Structured opportunities for dialogue, exchange, and international networking

Those who wish to actively participate can submit abstracts for presentations and posters by April 10, 2026. Authors will be notified by May 8, 2026.
