The five pillars of the VFP/APSI strategy define the activities and priorities of the association for the years 2023-2027. It is in line with the mission statement and takes into account the current challenges in the healthcare system and the association in its organisation: 

1. Advance nursing science: promoting research, knowledge dissemination, and implementation to improve evidence-based practice in nursing.
2. Promotion of academic nurses, academic societies, and commissions: support of professional development, anchoring of their role in the healthcare system, and increased knowledge transfer.
3. Strengthening the VFP network: strengthened and expanded inter- and cross-organisational collaboration and partnerships.
4. Improved visibility: strengthening the VFP and its influence in nursing practice, education, management and politics
5. Organisational development: professionalisation and resource-optimised organisation of the VFP
